Until recently my experience with YouTube had mainly been watching funny clips shared by my friends on Facebook. You know the ones. Some idiot doing something really stupid, nearly killing themselves in the process and then a mate posts it on YouTube and it goes viral. We all have a good laugh and then share it. My kids however are a bit more YouTube savvy and love to watch Minions, Minecraft videos and cute cats playing the piano. So I was really surprised to find how much quality learning material for kids is actually on YouTube. I now use the videos as part of Sam's lessons. It's a great way to kick off an activity; and being visual and a medium Sam really engages with, it's a great way to support and reinforce what we are learning. Letting him watch a couple of his favourite clips once we are finished is also a great incentive.
